September 2009Last of the Summer Braais
Summer is already moving towards autumn with leaves starting to turn yellow and before we know it winter will be here again but South Africans are still in summer mode and braaivleis meat is still flying out of our shop. The sosaties we introduced have been a great success and our speciality boerewors range has been as popular as ever, but be prepared
there are plans in the pipeline for even more great tastes from Biltong Direct. During September we will be introducing some exciting flavours to our boerewors range – call at the shop or watch the website www.biltongdirect.co.uk for details.
We have been told that the UK food authorities are on the warpath and some of our best sellers - favourites like All gold Jam - are being targeted for a variety of reasons. Several wholesalers bring groceries into UK and they are presently negotiating with the authorities. We will keep you informed of progress but please be aware that certain familiar groceries may soon have to be removed from our shelves.
On a more positive note, there are still so many products we CAN get and we are always happy to try to make your favourites available to you, so please let Rose know if you would like us to stock something special and we will do our best to find it for you.
Enjoy the last weeks of real summer - the weather hasn't been too bad for those lucky people living in Essex - but make the most of it while it lasts - order your boerewors and sit back by the fire and relax in the last few long evenings.

Our People - Gillian Gregory
Gillian Gregory joined our staff more than 2 years ago and soon made herself indispensable. She is an Essex lady born and bred and is the ideal member of staff for a Biltong factory – she is a vegetarian ! Although Jill stopped eating meat a number of years ago, she is still happy to cut biltong and make wors every day. Working with South Africans, she has learnt the nuances of biltong language and can even help customers in the shop - slicing biltong just the way they like it.
Jill is an avid horsewoman, breeding Welsh Cobs on Canvey Island. Being a mature single lady with no children means she is able to spend plenty of time with her horses and she is hoping her mares Megan and Georgie will both produce foals next Spring which she knows will keep her busy, but which she is really looking forward to.
